Recently, Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Gaurav Garg took to X to share four significant points about placements in IITs.

First Are Perks
IFS Gaurav says that Fresh IITians get a salary of around Rs 6 lakh to Rs 35 lakh. With higher packages offered to CSE, ECE graduates invariably. The basic offered is the actual take-home for the students. All other options are variables, stocks, and one-time benefits to the employee.

Second Is Companies
Gaurav further highlights, Figures of Crores to IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, and other IIT students are mostly from USA/Singapore/abroad based companies and in coding domains. Google, Facebook and Twitter are some of the examples.

Actual Package
Gaurav further clarifies the package. The salary packages include the ESOPs, Leave Encashment, Staggered payments in 4-5 years, etc. Sometimes the in-hand salary is only 40-50% of the CTC quoted.

Depends On Stream
He further clarifies the average salary package offered except Computer Science is 10-12 Lacs per annum with core branches like Mechanical, and Civil engineering getting placed on the lower side.

After putting a whole lot of effort into seeking the dream job, 36% of students from IIT Bombay have failed to find jobs, this year, according to the sources. Only 1,485 out of 2,209 were able to secure jobs through campus 2,209 students enrolled for placements.
