Who is Chandrani Murmu? Here's everything you need to know about Lok Sabha's youngest member

Indias 2024 Lok Sabha elections have commenced, and as usual, they have been an interesting event. In order to choose 543 Lok Sabha members, the elections are being held in seven parts from April 19 to June 1. On June 4, 2024, the votes will be tallied and the results announced. Given that elections are taking place right now, we shall examine the youngest Lok Sabha member in Indian political history in this post.

Who is Chandrani?
Chandrani Murmu was born in Kendujhar, Odisha, on June 16, 1993. Her father Sanjiv Murmu is employed by the government, while her mother Urbashi Soren is the daughter of former MP Hariharan Soren.

Education and before life
Murmu graduated from Bhubaneswar with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2017 and then began preparing for competitive tests. She received a call from the BJD asking for her opinion on the elections while they were getting ready.

BJD's masterplay
Given that Chandrani is an educated woman running for office from a reserved tribal seat, the BJD chose to field her from the Keonjhar constituency.

Seat in order!
She was chosen to represent Keonjhar in the Lok Sabha on the BJD ticket for the 2019 elections. She became the first-ever youngest Indian member of parliament.

Massive vote ratio!
She won 66,203 votes against BJP candidate Ananta Nayak. It is interesting to note that Nayak has served as a Lok Sabha member twice previously. Notably, Odisha became the first state ever to have 33 percent, or the highest percentage, of its 21 seats held by women MPs in 2019 with a total of seven female MPs.

This makes her unique
At the age of 25, Murmu was elected to the Lok Sabha. Prior to her, Dushyant Chautala of the Indian National Lok Dal was the youngest Member of Parliament, having been elected to the Hisar Lok Sabha constituency in 2014 at the age of 26.
