Brief history of Saree

    Sarees have been worn in India since ancient times. The word saree comes from the sanskrit word sareeka, which means a long piece of clothing. It is one of the most significant aspects of Indian culture, defining beauty, grace, and elegance for women.

1. Kanjivaram Silk Saree, Tamil Nadu

    Originating from the state of Tamil Nadu, a traditional saree is made of pure mulberry silk. It is popularly worn by brides in south India. It has a history of being worn by royal families because of its luxurious and elegant details. Made by the ikkat technique, intricately woven golden and silver threads.

2. Banarasi Saree, Uttar Pradesh

    Also known as Punjabi saree this saree is made in Varanasi out of silk, georgette, tussar, organza, chiffon, and cotton. Known for their fine weave and intricately detailed patterns, the Banarasi saree is one of the most famous sarees in India.

3. Bandhani Saree, Gujarat

    The bandhani saree, which means tie-dye, is hand-woven with detailing and intricate patterns. The art of bandhani is believed to have originated in Gujarat.

4. Nauvari Saree, Maharashtra

    Introduced to the world by weavers from Nauvar, Maharashtra, Nauvari means nine yards. With dynamic details and patterns, this saree is mostly made of silk and cotton in a fine weave and is often embellished with zari, embroidery, lace, and mirror work.

6. Bomkai Saree, Odisha

    Bomkai sarees are one of the most famous sarees in India; they are simplistic with heavy work and design on the border, and pall. The border, is often adorned with a design of fish.
