Meet Vidhya Rani: Veerappan’s Daughter To Fight Lok Sabha Elections 2024

NTK Candidate

Vidhya Veerappan, the 33-year-old daughter of the forest brigand Veerappan will test her electoral fortunes from Krishnagiri Lok Sabha constituency as the nominee of Naam Tamizhar Katchi (NTK).

Background

Vidhya is a lawyer by profession, who completed a five-year law course from a college in Bengaluru, runs a school in Krishnagiri, which has been her home for the last nine years.

Choosing Constituency

Vidhya was selected from Krishnagiri, a multicultural constituency that is home to speakers of Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Hindi, Urdu, and Kannada.

Political Career

Vidhya, who had joined the BJP in 2020, claimed that after viewing the television show Koose Munisamy Veerappan, which was based on her father, he decided to switch to NTK.

Nomination

Vidhya filed her nomination on March 25. A former BJP member, Vidya was an office-bearer of the party’s OBC wing, but left the party to join the NTK recently.

Daughter of bandit

Veerappan gained notoriety for poaching elephants, smuggling sandalwood, kidnapping well-known individuals like Kannada actor Raj Kumar and former minister Nagappa, and killing police officers and others who got in his way. He was killed in an encounter on October 18, 2004 by the Tamil Nadu Special Task Force (STF).
