The beautifully maintained station building, which was originally built as a part of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway—the first steam-powered interurban railway in history—is now housed in Manchesters Museum of Science and Industry, despite having been out of commission since 1975.

Even though it opened on the same day in 1830 and is still in use, Broad Green Railway Station comes in second because of significant changes made in the 1970s. Even the original platforms have been removed, and there are currently no original station buildings remaining.
