A blast at the famous Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru’s Whitefield area rocked the city at around 1 PM on March 1, 2024. According to the sources, no casualties reported, but 10 people got injured in the incident.

Identification of Suspect
Police has started the investigation and found a 30- year-old suspect, who came to cafe with a bag, believed to be carrying the explosive.

Ordered food
With the help of CCTV footage, the suspect who was wearing cap, glasses and mask, entered the café at 11:30 AM and ordered Rava Idli at the counter at around 11:38 AM.

What happened next?
In the footage, it can be seen that he did not eat the food and was seen at the wash basin area at around 11:44 AM. A minute later he was seen leaving café.

Explosion rocked
Then, the explosive went off at 12:56 PM, as per reports.

Investigation indicates
Preliminary investigations indicate an IED with a bulb filament that was heated to act as a detonator after being triggered by a digital timer.

It is found that the main explosive material – gunpower, which has potassium nitrate as main chemical, is easily available for the purchase.

The filament detonator that has been used is typically used by Islamic State (IS) operatives which was reportedly used in Mangalore auto-rickshaw blast in November 19, 2022.

NIA to investigate
A case has been registered under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Explosives Substances Act in connection with the explosion. According to the sources, NIA will take over the investigation in the case.
