Birth and Roots

    Mohammad Shami was born on 3 September 1990 in Amroha in Uttar Pradesh, India. His roots are from Sahaspur village in Amroha. His father Tousif Ali was a farmer who himself was a pace bowler.

His first coach

    Shami met his first Cricket coach when he was just 15 years old. His father Tousif took him to Moradabad to make him train under Badruddin Siddique.

Big offer

    After failing to get selected Uttar Pradesh U19 team due to politics in the selection affairs, Shami was sent to Kolkata by his father and coach Siddique. Here joined the Dalhousie Athletic Club and got noticed by former CAB assistant secretary Debabrata Das noticed him.

Impressing selectors

    When Shami was not picked by the Under 22 Bengal team, Debabrata Das asked one of the selectors to watch Shami bowl. After watching him bowl the selector was impressed and drafted him in the Bengal U22 team.

Ranji Cup debut

    Shami made a debut in the Ranji Cup, representing the Bengal team in 2010 and bagged 3 wickets against Assam in his debut game.

Shami’s IPL debut

    Shami made his IPL debut after he was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2011 IPL season as a rookie player. However, it was only in the 2013 season that he played his first game. Later in 2015, he was bought by Delhi Daredevils at the auction for a whopping Rs. 4.25 crore.

    It was in 2013 during the series against Pakistan that Mohammad Shami made his ODI debut. The match took place in Delhi where he bagged 1/23 in a tidy spell of 9 overs and impressed everyone.

Third fasted 50

    Shami became the third fastest Indian bowler to 50 wickets during India’s clash against Afghanistan in Asia Cup 2014.

    In the 2015 World Cup in Australia, Shami gave a remarkable performance and emerged as one of the top performers for India. Shami bagged 17 wickets in 8 matches at an average of 17.29 and an economy as low as 4.81.

Name change

    Initially, Shami made his cricket debut as Shami Ahmed, but days before his Test debut against West Indies, he revealed that his name was Mohammad Shami. The pacer has since then been playing under the same name

Lowest days

    Shami once revealed on Instagram Live that he thought of killing himself thrice during the lowest days after his wife accused him of adultery, domestic violence and match-fixing in March 2018. He also said that if he did not have his familys support he would not have made it.
