8 Insights: Ladakh Hosting 4th Edition of Khelo India Winter Games

1. A Monumental Event

This marks the first time Ladakh has been chosen as a venue for this prestigious winter sports competition. This is the time for Ladakh to shine and display the region’s commitment and potential towards promoting winter sports.

2. What is Khelo India?

Khelo India was launched in 2017 under PM Narendra Modi. It is a national program that aims to improve Indias sports culture at the grassroots level. The program focuses on structured sporting competitions, organized talent identification, and infrastructure development.

3. First Event

Khelo India Winter Games are ready to kick off from February 2 to 6. The games will take place in Leh across various locations providing thrilling icy adventures.

4. Second Event

The second part is planned to take place from February 21 to 25. Gulmarg, Jammu, and Kashmir will host the games on these days and provide picturesque landscapes for the grandeur of the event.

5. Expected Demographics

During the two sporting events, Ladakh will welcome 600 athletes from 16 different states of India.

6. Inauguration of event

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur will be inaugurating the prestigious event. Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Nisith Pramanik will also be present. The opening ceremony will take place in Leh on February 2nd.

Secretary Youth Services and Sports Department Ladakh Ravinder Kumar Dangi stated that it is a matter of happiness and privilege that Ladakh will be hosting the 4th Edition of the Khelo India Winter Games for the very first time.
