Hit wicket (Roy Fredericks)

    Roy Fredericks was the first batter to get out by hit wicket of Dennis Lille during the 1975 WC final between Australi and West Indies. In a bizarre dismissal, his leg hits the stumps as he tries to hook the slower ball from Dennis Lillie.

Run out off no ball (Dean Jones)

    In 1981, Australian batsman Dean Jones was dismissed for run out. in a controversial incident. Jones was attempting to run a single when he collided with the fielder. The fielder threw the ball at the stumps, and Jones was run out. Notably, it was a no ball delievery.

Obstructing the field (Rameez Raja)

    In 1987, Pakistan captain Rameez Raja became the first player to be dismissed for obstructing the field in an ODI. Raja was attempting to take a run when he deliberately blocked the path of the fielder.

Hit the ball twice (Muttiah Muralitharan)

    In 1996, Sri Lankan spin legend Muttiah Muralitharan became the first and only player to be dismissed for hitting the ball twice in the same over. Muralitharan hit the ball off his pads, and then as he attempted to run, he accidentally hit it again with his bat.

Retired hurt out (Marvan Atapattu)

    The first-ever retired-out dismissal was witnessed when Marvan Atapattu was called in by Sanath Jayasuriya after scoring double ton in a Test against Bangladesh on September 7, 2001. In the same innings, Mahela Jaywardene also retired out after scoring 150.

    In 2023, Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews became the first player to be dismissed for timed out in international cricket. Mathews took too much time to prepare to face the bowler and was dismissed as a result.
