Silkworms are killed to preserve material quality, thread length, and value because they chew their way out of their cocoon when they become adults in nature.

As per the Odisha govt, the production is compassionate while the traditional method of Filament Silk involves killing of moths. But now their life cycle will be honoured and they will be let go.

What is Silk Filament?
As we know that silk is obtained from cocoon made by silkworm. Cocoon is made up of small filaments generally called as silk filament or silk fibre. Silk filament or fiber is a double strand of fibroin(a kind of protein), which is held together by a gummy substance called sericin or silk gum.

What Changed?
When the moth flies away it ruptures the fiber. The Odisha govt will use worsted pinning process we will be able to get the fiber ready for dying and weaving.
