Who is KCR?

Kalvakuntla Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) is politician who currently serves as 2nd and current Telangana CM. Founder of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party. He is popularly known for his role in Telangana movement.

Early Life

KCR, born Feb 17, 1954 in Karimnagar, Telangana to Kalvakuntla Venkateshwar Rao and Venkatamma, graduated from Kakatiya University with an Economics degree after finishing school at the districts Zilla Parishad.

Political trajectory

KCR began his public service in the 1970s with PRP, won his first assembly seat in 85, served as TDP minister after joining in 94, and then founded TRS in 2001, leading it to victory in 2009.

Telangana movement

KCR is the architect of the Telangana movement. Telangana movement was decades-long struggle for creation of separate state of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh. The movement was successful and Telangana was created in 2014.

Achievements as Chief Minister

KCR has implemented several welfare schemes for the poor and downtrodden. He has also focused on the development of agriculture and irrigation. He has also taken steps to improve the infrastructure of Telangana.
