All About Safer Internet Day Celebrated on February 6
What is it?
Safer Internet Day strives to not just create a safer internet but also a better one. An internet where all are empowered to use technology respectfully, critically, creatively, and responsibly.

How did it originate?
Safer Internet Day was inaugurated in 2003 in Europe and is currently celebrated in over 100 countries. It’s coordinated by the Brussels-based Insafe/INHOPE Network on a global basis, and the European Commission supports them. Ever since 2013, ConnectSafely has been the official host for the US.

Slogan
Every year on February 6 this day is celebrated with the hopes of showing people how to use the internet in a safe manner and to its full potential. The slogan “Together for a better internet” reflects this notion.

Target audience
The campaign wishes to reach out to not just children and teens, but also parents, educators, social workers, and even industries, decision-makers, and politicians. The audience is vast as everyone is involved online and has a major influence.

Live Program
The live program that will be taking place is called Smart Digital Parenting: Navigating Screens with Children & Teens. This is a virtual session that will be hosted in partnership with the National PTA. It will explore the impact of influencers, how to deal with kids feeling left out, talking to children about difficult topics, the pressure to be perfect, what generative AI means for your family, and online harassment and bullying.
