    Mahsa Amini, also known as Jina Emini, was an Iranian woman whose arrest in Tehran for opposing mandatory hijab and subsequent death in police custody sparked a wave of protests throughout Iran.

Who was Mahsa Amini?

    Mahsa Jina Amini was born on September 1999 to a Kurdish family in Kurdistan Province, in Northeastern Iran.

What happened to her?

    On September 13, 2022, 22-year-old Mahsa Amini was arrested by Irans morality police for improperly wearing her hijab. According to her family, she was severly beaten. However, she died three days later while still in police custody.
