From Sunak to Patel: 'INDIANS' who secured seats in British Parliament

    In northern England, the incumbent Prime Minister Rishi Sunak secured his seat, yet his Conservative Party conceded defeat in the general elections as the Labour Party clinched victory with a commanding 378 seats.

Preet Kaur Gill

    Gill, a Labour Party member, has been re-elected from Birmingham Edgbaston. Previously, she held the position of Shadow Minister for Primary Care and Public Health.

Priti Patel

    Priti Patel, former Home Secretary, has successfully defended her seat in Witham, Essex, securing 37.2 percent of the votes and surpassing the Labour Party candidate who placed second. Of Gujarati descent, Patel held the Home Secretary role from 2019 to 2022. A longstanding member of the Conservative Party, she has represented Witham as an MP since 2010.

Gagan Mohindra

    Mohindra, born into a Punjabi Hindu family, continues to represent the Conservative Party. He secured re-election from South West Herts in the UK general election, garnering 16,458 votes. Sally Symington of the Liberal Democrats followed in second place with 12,002 votes. Mohindras parents immigrated from Punjab to the United Kingdom before his birth, and his paternal grandfather served in the British Indian Army.

Kanishka Narayan

    A Labour Party member and former Welsh Secretary Alun Cairns lost to Labours Kanishka Narayan, who has become Wales first MP from a minority ethnic background. Born in India, Narayan moved to Cardiff at age 12. He earned a scholarship to Eton, studied at Oxford and Stanford, and then became a civil servant. Narayan served as a civil servant in the Cabinet Office under David Cameron and in the Environment Department under Liz Truss.

Navendu Mishra

    Navendu Mishra, a Labour Party member, has once again emerged victorious from the Stockport constituency, having previously secured the seat in the 2019 elections. Mishra, whose mother hails from Gorakhpur and father from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, garnered 21,787 votes in the recent election. The Stockport constituency has consistently elected Labour MPs since 1992.
