In Rajasthan, a class 12 student has accused her school of preventing her from taking board exams because she was gang-raped last year. She claimed that school officials cited concerns about spoiling the atmosphere as the reason for denying her the opportunity to sit for the exams.

According to the student, the private school in Ajmer declined to issue her an admit card, stating that she had not attended classes for four months. However, the school's stance contradicts her allegations of discrimination.

Ajmer Child Welfare Commission launches investigation

The incident surfaced when the student sought help from a teacher at another school, who advised her to contact the child helpline. The Ajmer Child Welfare Commission (CWC) has initiated an investigation into the matter and pledged to take appropriate action.

Anjali Sharma, the chairperson of the CWC, confirmed that she had spoken with the student regarding the situation. While the investigation is ongoing, Sharma emphasized the importance of ensuring that the student can make up for the missed exams from March.

Sexual assault case

Last October, the student was subjected to sexual assault by her uncle and two others. Following the assault, the school allegedly suggested that she study from home to avoid disturbing the school environment. Despite agreeing to this arrangement and diligently preparing for her board exams, the student was shocked to learn that she was no longer considered a student of the school when she went to collect her admit card.

CWC chairperson raises concerns

The school's decision to bar her from attending classes immediately after the assault, reportedly due to objections from other parents, has deeply affected the student. Anjali Sharma expressed concern over the situation, highlighting the student's academic potential and previous achievements in the class 10 board exams.

Sharma emphasized that the school's negligence may cause the student to lose a year of academics.
