The Tesla CEO, Elon Musk has stepped in to rescue an Indian-origin doctor in Canada, who was facing a steep legal battle over her Covid-19 tweets. Taking it to his social media handle, Musk said that he would pay the legal fee of $300,000 to Kulvinder Kaur Gill.

"X is proud to help defend Dr Kulvinder Kaur Gill against the government-supported efforts to cancel her speech," the tweet reads.
Now the question is, who is Dr Kulvinder Singh Gill and why did Elon Musk’s company decide to help her? Dr Kulvinder Kaur Gill is an Indian-origin pediatrician in Canada who faced massive backlash over her posts against the crucial government’s policies during the COVID-19 times, which resulted in $300,000 in legal bills for the Indo-Canadian doctor. She started a crowdfunding campaign and appealed to X.

"When Elon Musk learned earlier this week about her crowdfunding campaign to pay the judgment, he pledged to help," X News said on Sunday (March 24).

Who is Kulvinder Singh Gill? What is the case all about?

According to the sources, Dr Kulvinder Singh Gill during the summer of 2020, courageously spoke about the serious harms of the lockdown that made her the target of a coordinated online smear campaign, urging people to complain to her regulatory college.

Soon after, in a bid to clear her name from the issue, she started legal proceedings against those responsible which unfortunately resulted in a hefty cost order of up to $1.2 million by October 2022. Despite several appeals, she faced a nearly $300,000 cost order by late February 2024, leaving her with limited time to pay.

Earlier this week, Gill mentioned Musk in a post on X, seeking help to cover her legal expenses. Gill also thanked the community for helping her raise the funds.
