Uttar Pradesh: A wedding got called off in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly after a groom who was reportedly drunk, garlanded his friend instead of his own bride . The bride got furious over the incident and slapped him in front of the guests and sent whole Baraat ( wedding procession) back.

Drunken mistake

The bizarre incident took place in a village of Barkheda area of Clodia police station. According to the reports, groom's name is Ravindra Kumar. Ravindra arrived at the venue in an intoxicated state where he was almost not in complete senses. When the time came of traditional ritual of garland exchange, groom unconsciously ended up putting the garland on his who was standing close to him instead of the bride.

Echo of slap was heard by everyone

The bride got shocked and agitated which resulted her slapping the groom in front of all the guests. She even cancelled the wedding and do not want to continue. The embarrassing moment soon turned into intensified altercation between both families. Chairs were hurled, food was thrown onto each other and guests got into heated arguments. The situation got worse to the point where police had to intervene and stop them. Officers imediately arrested the groom and conducted a medical examination.

Baraat had to leave empty-handed

The elderly people tried to smooth things out and cool down the situation, but the bride stood her ground firmly. She clearly refused to marry someone who arrived at his own wedding being drunk. The Baraat was left with no choice but to empty-handed. As per the police a case has been registered under The Dowry Act against groom and his family. The bride's family also accused groom and his family of demanding additional dowry, authorities confirmed.
