New Delhi: In a recent incident, security personnel of Indigo Airlines detained a passenger at Mumbai airport for smoking a beedi (cigarette) onboard a flight bound for Saudi Arabia. The individual in question, identified as Mohammed Ammruddin (42) from Delhi, was apprehended during a Delhi-Mumbai flight while en route to Saudi Arabia.What actually happened The unauthorized smoking incident occurred during the duration of the Delhi-Mumbai flight. Upon the aircrafts arrival at Mumbais international airport at approximately 4:30 PM, vigilant security personnel conducted a routine check onboard. It was during this inspection that the suspect was caught smoking in the lavatory.According to a police officer from the Sahar police station, the suspect, who had plans to travel from Mumbai to Dubai for employment, was apprehended by the vigilant security officer upon discovering smoke emanating from the lavatory. Despite successfully passing security checks at Delhi airport, the suspect had concealed the beedi and lighter in his pants pocket.Legal action initiatedThe Sahar police have levied charges against the individual under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for endangering lives and the Aircraft Act. As a consequence of the incident, the suspect, who intended to travel from Mumbai to Saudi Arabia for employment, was barred from boarding the scheduled flight.
