A Chinese influencer, Gu Xixi, has ignited controversy by claiming she earns a staggering 300,000 yuan (₹35 lakh) per day by simply lying in bed. Her boastful statements triggered massive backlash, leading her to later clarify that her remarks were meant to provoke haters. Despite her justification, criticism continues to pour in.

Social media star sparks outrage with bold claim

Chinese influencer Gu Xixi, known for her eccentric online presence, has landed in hot water after claiming to earn Rs 35 lakh daily while doing "absolutely nothing." Her controversial statement, made during a live stream, fueled public anger, with many questioning the ethics of such effortless wealth.

Rs 12 Crore in Just 8 Days

Between February 8 and 16, Gu Xixi reportedly earned a whopping 10.39 million yuan (Rs 12 crore) from one platform alone, securing an estimated commission of 2.79 million yuan (Rs 3.2 crore). Another platform saw her sales touch 8.94 million yuan (Rs 10.4 crore) in just seven days. During her live session, the 25-year-old boldly declared,
"The more you hate me, the more I earn. It's not about making lakhs per month but per day!"
Her remarks only added fuel to the fire, with netizens calling her out for flaunting wealth earned through controversial antics.

A history of shocking online stunts

Gu Xixi rose to fame through bizarre live-streaming tactics, including swallowing a ping-pong ball. However, her online journey has been marred by repeated suspensions for "vulgar content." In the past, she streamed herself washing her buttocks to attract viewers and even admitted to serving probation for affray at age 15.

Backtracking amid backlash

Following the uproar, Xixi revised her statement on February 17, claiming her words were meant to "provoke haters." She defended her earnings, saying, "We did not steal or rob. All the money we make is hard-earned."
Despite her justification, public outrage refuses to die down.

This isn’t the first time Gu Xixi has flaunted her wealth. In November, she revealed plans to buy a Rs 24 crore, 2,000-square-meter villa in Nantong. However, her latest claims have intensified public scrutiny, with many questioning the influence of social media stardom on today’s youth.
