On Friday, the Indian Farm Forestry Development Cooperative (IFFCO) shared a post that has captivated nationwide attention. The focus of this post is a groundbreaking scheme aimed at empowering women in rural areas by providing them with the necessary tools and resources to thrive economically. This initiative, known as the NAMO Drone Didi Scheme, equips self-help groups (SHGs) with agricultural drones, allowing women to actively participate in various farming activities such as crop spraying, precision agriculture, field mapping, and data collection.
A video from IFFCO UP showcases women agricultural field workers being trained as drone pilots for spraying pesticides, making the job significantly easier for the farming community. The video, captioned "Dry run practice of Namo drone didi was organized at cordet #IFFCO Phulpur in presence of DOF official," highlights the practical training sessions aimed at familiarizing women with drone technology.
On March 11, 2024, the Narendra Modi government distributed 1,000 drones to Namo Drone Didis from across the country at 10 different locations. PM Modi emphasized that Nari Shakti is crucial for driving India's technological revolution in the 21st century. The scheme, first announced by PM Modi on November 30, 2023, is designed to empower rural women by integrating them into the modern agricultural landscape.

The NAMO Drone Didi Scheme aims to revolutionize farming by integrating advanced technology. In recent years, various technological advancements have transformed Indian agriculture, and drone technology is a significant addition. Drones can enhance farmers' productivity and modernize agricultural practices by facilitating precision farming, efficient crop monitoring, and reducing the environmental impact of traditional methods. Moreover, drones can alleviate the physical strain associated with farming, making agricultural tasks less labor-intensive.
The NAMO Drone Didi Scheme seeks to empower women by providing access to cutting-edge drone technology and comprehensive training. Over the next three years, the government plans to provide 15,000 drones to women's SHGs, enabling them to engage in diverse agricultural activities. This initiative not only empowers women but also enhances the agricultural sector by promoting the use of drones. Drones offer precision farming capabilities, efficient crop monitoring, and sustainable farming practices, ultimately strengthening the agricultural industry.
The scheme has sparked positive reactions from the public. One netizen commented, "When you have a visionary Prime Minister like Narendra Modi, it will happen. Village women in India are becoming drone pilots, trained to operate drones not only for farming but for other strategic requirements." Another user remarked, "My NEW BHARA."
