New Delhi: Self-driving technology has been a focal point for many companies worldwide, with endeavors to integrate it into vehicles for enhanced safety and convenience. While pioneers like Tesla have implemented this technology in their cars, its widespread adoption remains limited, often confined to specific regions and routes due to regulatory and safety considerations.
In a remarkable demonstration of self-driving prowess, a Mahindra Bolero was spotted navigating the streets of Bhopal without a driver at the helm, captivating onlookers and garnering admiration, including from Anand Mahindra himself.
Anand Mahindra took to social media platform X to share a video showcasing the autonomous feat. The Bolero, guided by Sanjeev Sharma, founder and CEO of Autonomous Robots and Deep Egen, a Bhopal-based startup, was seen maneuvering effortlessly through the city streets. Sharma, recognized for his contributions, received the '51 Most Impactful Smart Cities Leaders Award (Global Listing)' in 2019.
In the video, the Bolero can be observed autonomously navigating through varied scenarios, from empty roads to bustling thoroughfares teeming with pedestrians and traffic. Despite encountering vehicles and pedestrians flouting traffic norms, the Bolero adeptly adhered to the left-hand driving rule, showcasing its precision and reliability in diverse environments.
The seamless performance of the self-driving Bolero not only underscores the advancements in autonomous technology but also ignites discussions about the future of mobility in India. While self-driving cars remain a topic for the future in the country, such demonstrations provide a glimpse into the potential of innovative solutions to address transportation challenges.
