New Delhi: A video making waves online shows students gleefully splashing in a makeshift swimming pool – their very own classroom transformed to beat the brutal heatwave. With scorching temperatures reaching a staggering 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit), school attendance began to plummet. Taking matters into his own hands, the principal, Vaibhav Rajput, devised a clever plan. “The mercury level has been between 38 to 40 degrees Celsius for the past few days,” Rajput told NDTV. “This has reduced the number of children in school drastically.”

Classroom transformed into swimming pool

Rajput’s ingenious solution? Convert a classroom into a refreshing haven. The room was filled with water, creating a shallow pool for the students to cool down while still attending their lessons. The video captures the children’s delight as they splash and play in the makeshift pool, a welcome respite from the stifling heat outside.

This innovative approach has not only boosted school attendance but has also garnered widespread praise for its creativity and focus on student well-being. “But after a classroom of the school was filled with water, children started coming,” Rajput added. “They are now studying and are also getting relief from the heat by swimming.”

India dealing with scorching heatwaves

The school’s initiative comes amidst a scorching heatwave gripping large parts of India. With temperatures in some areas reaching a dangerous 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit), the Indian Meteorological Department has issued red and orange alerts, warning of extreme heat conditions expected to persist for several days.
