New Delhi: Five individuals became ill after consuming a mouth freshener containing dry ice at a Gurugram restaurant. Ankit Kumar, accompanied by his wife and friends, visited a restaurant in Sector 90, where they were served the mouth freshener after their meal. Subsequently, the group experienced health issues, leading to their hospitalization, as reported in Kumars complaint.Identification of hazardous substanceAccording to Kumar, a doctor confirmed the presence of dry ice in the mouth freshener, highlighting its potentially harmful acidic nature. After consulting a doctor, it was confirmed that the mouth freshener contained dry ice, which is acidic and poses serious health risks, stated Kumar.Symptoms led to hospitalizationUpon ingestion, the affected individuals suffered from symptoms like burning sensations, mouth bleeding, and vomiting, necessitating their admission to the hospital. Four of the victims were hospitalized, while the restaurant staff reportedly left the premises.Circulation of distressing videoA viral video on social media depicted the distressing scenes of the affected individuals experiencing intense discomfort. Kumar expressed concerns about the unknown ingredients and the acidic nature of the substance.Legal action, investigation initiatedPromptly, Kumar reported the incident to the police, resulting in the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Inspector Manoj Kumar of Kherki Daula police station assured that investigations are underway, promising appropriate legal measures.
