New Delhi: In a shocking incident at the Shahjahanpur SP office, Tahir Ali, a resident of Sihran village, doused himself in petrol and set himself ablaze around noon on Tuesday. Despite efforts by soldiers to control the fire, Tahir sustained severe burns and has been referred to Lucknow for treatment. Former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has voiced concerns about law and order following this disturbing event.

Dispute over vehicles leads to drastic action

Tahir Ali, a resident of Sehran village in the Kant police station area, took the extreme step due to an unresolved dispute regarding vehicles in Shahjahanpur. Allegedly, Tahir had a disagreement with Umesh Kumar Tiwari from Chinaur, Sadar Bazar, over rental vehicles. Tahir claims that he leased two pickup trucks to Umesh, who later refused to pay rent or return the vehicles. Despite filing complaints with the SP office, Tahir felt unheard and desperate.

Desperate act draws attention

Feeling unheard and desperate, Tahir arrived at the SP office accompanied by his wife and three children, seeking resolution to his plight. Igniting petrol upon himself at the main gate, Tahir's actions caused immediate chaos. Though policemen intervened swiftly, Tahir suffered significant burns before being rushed to Government Medical College and later referred to Lucknow for critical care.

Allegations and political pressure

Tahir alleged that the accused, under political influence, had attacked him while transporting the vehicles. Despite legal recourse, including police intervention and court applications, Tahir felt ignored and marginalized. The vehicles, initially recovered by the police, mysteriously disappeared from custody, exacerbating Tahir's frustration and sense of injustice.
