A sudden downpour accompanied by a fierce storm caused significant disruption at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, Assam, on Sunday, leading to the suspension of operations and the rerouting of six flights to alternative destinations, according to a senior official.
The intense storm resulted in the uprooting of a large tree near the Oil India complex, just outside the Adani Group-managed facility, obstructing a vital road, as stated by Chief Airport Officer (CAO) Utpal Baruah.
"We quickly responded and cleared the road to ensure smooth fuel supply to the terminal. It took us more than thirty minutes," Utpal Baruah reported.

During the onslaught of rain and strong winds, a section of the airport's roof in the forecourt area was blown off, Utpal Baruah explained.
"Due to its age, the structure couldn't withstand the force. Consequently, the ceiling gave way, leading to water ingress inside. Fortunately, there were no injuries, and the situation is now under control," he confirmed.
