The scars of the 1947 India-Pakistan partition still haunt the citizens of both of the countries. The partition left millions of families dead and thousands were forced to be displaced from their native places, leaving behind friends, family, and loved ones. However, amidst the pain, a touching reunion of two childhood friends, who were separated during the partition, surfaced on the internet.

Megan Kothari, 32, captured the emotional moment when her grandfather, Suresh Kothari, reunited with his childhood friend, AG Shakir, in the US. The two friends, who hailed from Deesa, Gujarat, were torn apart by the Partition at the age of 12.

Despite the geographical divide, their bond endured. "When his friend reached Pakistan in 1947, he wrote to my grandfather, sharing his address in Rawalpindi," Ms. Kothari shared in an Instagram video. Despite attempts to stay in touch, political tensions severed communication until 1982, when they reunited in New York.

Friends reunion after 41 years

In October 2023, after 41 years, they met again, which is captured in a heartwarming video. Their affectionate embrace simply explains the enduring power of human connection. "The love and respect they still held for each other... is profound," read the video's caption.
