New Delhi: Hema Malini, a prominent BJP leader from Mathura, stirred controversy with her recent social media post showcasing a visit to a local field. Shared on April 12, Friday, the post aimed to highlight her interaction with farmers, emphasizing her decade-long engagement with the agricultural community. However, the post was met with skepticism from netizens, who perceived it more as a photo shoot than genuine engagement, particularly in light of the upcoming elections.
Criticism ensued as Hema Malini was photographed posing dramatically amidst the farmland, adorned in an opulent saree and flowing hair, juxtaposed against female farmers in traditional attire. The images, portraying her holding harvested crops and a sickle, sparked debate over the authenticity of her involvement.
Netizens questioned the timing of her visit, suggesting it was merely a campaign strategy rather than sincere outreach. One commenter pointed out the infrequency of her visits, implying they were primarily election-driven: "Last time I saw you here was exactly 5 years back."
Today I went into the farms to interact with the farmers who I have been meeting regularly these 10 years. They loved having me in their midst and insisted I pose with them which I did❤️ pic.twitter.com/iRD4y9DH4k

The actress-politician faced further backlash for her attire, deemed excessive for farm work in the scorching summer heat. Clad in an expensive silk saree with open hair, critics questioned the practicality of such attire for agricultural labor, raising doubts about her genuine commitment to the farmers' cause.
Amidst the criticism, some netizens resorted to humor, juxtaposing her glamorous appearance with the labor-intensive nature of farming. One comment humorously remarked, "There is a difference between Dream Girl and Basanti," while another quipped, "You can't actually extend a hand to the farmers."
While the majority of responses criticized her actions, a few praised her appearance, diverting attention from the political implications to her aesthetic appeal. Memes and witty dialogues flooded the comments section, highlighting the perceived theatricality of her poses.
Hema Malini's political career, initiated in 2014 with her nomination by the BJP, has seen her secure successive terms, including her victory in 2019. With the Mathura Assembly constituency set to vote in the second phase of general elections on April 26, her candidacy for a third consecutive term underscores the party's confidence in her leadership.
