A tragic incident unfolded in Delhi's Ghazipur area on Wednesday evening as a 22-year-old woman lost her life and at least six others sustained injuries after being hit by a car. The victim, identified as Sita Devi from Ghaziabad, was fatally injured in the mishap that occurred around 9 p.m. in a bustling market area.

Reacting to the incident, enraged locals resorted to taking matters into their own hands, vandalising the vehicle involved and assaulting its driver, who suffered severe injuries and is currently hospitalised, as per statements from the police.

DCP (east) Apoorva Gupta provided details of the incident, stating, "It happened around 9:30 p.m. in Budh Bazaar area. Several people were injured and brought to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital. One person who was in critical condition has died. The accused is also undergoing treatment here."

CCTV footage captured the harrowing moment when the vehicle ploughed into nearby shops before speeding away. Subsequent videos circulating on social media depict an angry mob attacking the car, shattering its windows, and attempting to flip it over.

Locals have alleged that the driver was driving under the influence of alcohol, although the police have indicated that a medical examination will be conducted to confirm this suspicion.

The injured individuals, all residents of Khoda Colony on the Delhi-Ghaziabad border, are receiving medical attention at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, according to the authorities. DCP Gupta assured that the accused driver is in police custody and legal proceedings are underway.

AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar echoed the sentiment of the locals, asserting that the driver was indeed intoxicated at the time of the tragic incident.
