Early on Tuesday morning, two policemen sustained injuries after being struck by a reckless driver at the Sector-30 underpass near NH-48, according to police reports.
The officers, identified as constable Jitender Kumar and special police officer Kishun Pal, were on patrol duty riding a Suzuki motorcycle when a Hyundai i10 collided with them from behind. The driver, identified as 29-year-old Ravi Kumar from Anil Vihar in Sonipat, was apprehended at the scene and subsequently arrested.
The collision occurred around 2:40 am, leaving both policemen with deep cuts and bruises as they were thrown from their bike due to the impact. Despite their injuries, the officers managed to detain the driver with the assistance of another police team from Sector-40 police station.
Inspector Manoj Verma, the station house officer of Sector-40 police station, revealed that Kumar, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, was returning home from Sector-17 at the time of the incident. He underwent a medical examination at Sector-10A government hospital, confirming his inebriated state, before being temporarily released on bail.
An FIR has been registered at Sector-40 police station based on the constable's complaint, citing violations of sections 279, 336, 337, and 427 of the Indian Penal Code, pertaining to reckless driving, causing grievous hurt, and causing damage to property.
