S Somanath, the chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), recently disclosed that he battled cancer during the launch of India's Aditya L1 solar mission. In an interview with Tarmak Media House, Somanath revealed that he underwent surgery and chemotherapy. Eventually, he emerged victorious in his fight against the disease.
Despite facing health challenges during the Chandrayaan-3 mission launch last year, Somanath's cancer diagnosis came to light on the day of the Aditya L1 launch. Following further tests in Chennai, doctors confirmed a cancerous growth in his large intestine, prompting immediate action.

Recalling his journey, Somanath expressed gratitude for the support of his family, who stood by him during this trying time. He acknowledged the initial shock his diagnosis may have caused but emphasized the message of hope and resilience in overcoming cancer.
Admitting to uncertainties during treatment, Somanath credited the guidance of family members who had triumphed over similar adversities. He underscored the importance of regular check-ups and scans, reassuring the public of his complete recovery and resumption of duties.
Despite undergoing surgery and a four-day hospital stay, Somanath remained steadfast in fulfilling his responsibilities. Now, with annual check-ups scheduled, he emphasized the importance of early detection and timely intervention.
