Many households consider Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC), one of the longest-running Indian sitcoms, to be a cult favourite. The family drama debuted in 2008 and has been a hit show for many years. The entertaining plot and carefully chosen cast of characters have made the serial popular with viewers.

Uncanny similarity!

It appears that the Indian cricket squad has been affected by the TMKOC fans as well. As the ICC T20 World Cup shirt was being unveiled by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), astute social media observers noticed a humorous TMKOC allusion. Team India will wear a light blue jersey with three white stripes, orange sleeves, and an Adidas fit for the major event.

The T20 WC

The T20 World Cup, in its ninth edition, is set to take place in the USA and the West Indies from June 1 to June 29. Viewers of TMKOC were eager to compare the Team India outfit to another similar strip that was featured in one of TMKOC's episodes when BCCI announced the jersey on May 6. Many proved their claim by posting images and videos on X (previously Twitter) showing the characters from the program wearing the same shirts. This led to a humorous social media meme frenzy that made people chuckle.

A user posted a video highlighting the striking similarities and said that Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is more adept at predicting the future than The Simpsons. The Simpsons are well known for their uncannily precise forecasts on a wide range of  occasions. Fans are attracted by a stripe on the shirt collar that reflects the tricolour of India. According to the official Adidas website, the jersey costs Rs 5,999 in the normal size.
