The National Football League (NFL) has seen an unprecedented surge in brand value, thanks to none other than global pop sensation Taylor Swift. Since her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs’ star Travis Kelce became public, the league has gained millions of new followers, particularly among young women. According to a report by MarketWatch, Swift’s impact has translated into a staggering $1 billion increase in NFL brand value over the past two years.
Citing data from Apex Marketing, MarketWatch revealed that Swift’s influence added over $992 million to the NFL’s brand value. Between September 2023 and January 2024, Swift generated an estimated $366.7 million in equivalent brand value through media coverage, spanning TV, radio, digital news, and print. In the 2024-25 season, that number skyrocketed to over $634.3 million. With Swift expected to attend Super Bowl 59 as the Chiefs take on the Eagles, the final figure is set to cross the billion-dollar mark.
Though neither Swift nor Kelce publicly announced their relationship, the pop star’s frequent appearances at Chiefs games since September 2023 sparked a frenzy. Her presence not only dominated headlines but also brought an entirely new audience to the NFL. Apex Marketing’s Eric Smallwood explained, “The Swift Effect and the corresponding media exposure continued for the NFL and the Chiefs before the start of the 2024 NFL season… leading into the playoffs and now the Super Bowl.”
Swift’s impact wasn’t just limited to the NFL—it also propelled Kelce into a new realm of celebrity status. His Instagram following jumped from 2.7 million in September 2023 to 6.7 million by early 2024, with most of his new followers being young women—Swift’s core fanbase. Even the NFL acknowledged the shift, reporting that nearly half of its new TikTok followers in 2024 were female.
The buzz around this year’s Super Bowl is greater than ever. With the Kansas City Chiefs facing off against the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans, Taylor Swift’s expected presence will only amplify the media frenzy. Adding to the spectacle, former U.S. President Donald Trump is also slated to attend, making it one of the most talked-about Super Bowls in recent history.
