Swiggy Food Marketplace saw record-breaking numbers this Valentine’s Day as lovebirds across India turned to the platform for their celebrations. CEO Rohit Kapoor shared fascinating insights, revealing an extraordinary surge in orders. A standout order came from a Noida-based customer who spent ₹25,335 on nine premium cakes from Theos. “This is what love is, it increases when it is shared,” Kapoor remarked in a post on X.
Cake deliveries soared to an impressive 607 cakes per minute, with milk chocolate emerging as the most popular flavor. Bengaluru led the country in cake orders, making it the city with the highest demand for sweet treats.
While metro cities contributed significantly to the Valentine’s Day rush, smaller cities like Ludhiana, Amritsar, Shillong, Noida, and Agra also experienced significant spikes in food delivery orders. The data highlights how online food delivery has become a mainstream choice across India, not just in major urban centers.
Swiggy Bolt, the platform’s fast-delivery service, made headlines by delivering an order from NIC Ice Creams in Tirupur in just 3.4 minutes. Kapoor celebrated the milestone, stating, “Hot stays hot, cold stays cold, and cravings never have to wait.”
Beyond food delivery, Swiggy Dineout saw a sharp increase in bookings, with Bhubaneswar registering a staggering 279% rise compared to the previous week. One lucky user saved ₹59,628 on a bill worth ₹1,19,406 using Swiggy Dineout, showcasing the platform’s attractive discounts and offers.
Swiggy Co-founder Kishan Phani revealed that Swiggy Instamart was also flooded with love-themed orders. At peak hours, the platform recorded 581 chocolate orders per minute and 324 rose orders per minute. Phani humorously commented, “If there was ever a stock market for love, this was the bull run.”
