Suspense in woods: Police foil secret gambling operation with wedding ruse!

Using cyber cell assistance, the team located the gambling site within the dense forest of Tuba, surrounded it and launched a coordinated raid.

Illegal gambling activities in the Tuba forest of Farsabahar district came to an abrupt halt today as law enforcement arrested the perpetrators. The police, disguised as a wedding procession, launched a surprise raid on the forest, arresting those involved in the illicit gambling activities. Moreover, a police station officer has been suspended in connection with the case.

Gambling complaints had been persistently reported in the Tuba forest area under the jurisdiction of Farsabahar police station. Acting upon information received on March 5, 2024, Superintendent of Police Jashpur, Mr. Shashi Mohan Singh (IPS), dispatched multiple teams led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Dhruvesh Jaiswal and Trainee Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhanupratap Chandrakar. These teams were tasked with apprehending the offenders and taking appropriate legal action.

Coordinated raid in forest 

Following the instructions, the police team discreetly entered the forest, concealing their presence by posing as members of a wedding procession. Using cyber cell assistance, the team located the gambling site within the dense forest of Tuba, surrounded it and launched a coordinated raid. The operation resulted in the arrest of several individuals involved in illegal gambling activities. Substantial evidence including cash, mobile phones, vehicles, and playing cards were confiscated from the suspects.

The arrested individuals have been identified as follows:

1. Rumashankar Yadav (35) from Bagaijharia police station Bagbahar
2. Dheeraj Choudhary (30) from Tapkara
3. Harish Tamrakar (40) from Tapkara
4. Harsh Soni (19) from Tapkara bus stand
5. Naveen Choudhary (28) from Khadiatoli police station Tapkara
6. Mo. Iqbal (49) from Block Colony Farsabahar
7. Naveen Soni (21) from Tapkara Ghanshyam Nagar

Inspector suspended over alleged negligence

Legal action has been initiated against all the accused under Section 3(2) of the Gambling Act.

Furthermore, Inspector Ramsay Pankra, the in-charge of Farsabahar police station, has been suspended for negligence in handling the gambling case and has been reassigned to Police Line Jashpur.
