Punjabi composer Bunty Bains narrowly escaped harm in a suspected extortion attempt on Monday. The incident involved gunfire outside a restaurant in Mohali's Sector 79.

According to reports, Bains wasn't present at the restaurant when the assailants opened fire, leaving shattered windows and a bullet embedded in the frame. He later filed a police complaint, stating that he had received an extortion call demanding Rs 1 crore (approximately USD 120,000) following the attack.

Lawrence Bishnoi's connection

The caller allegedly threatened Bains with death if he failed to comply. The threat reportedly came in the name of Lucky Patial, a gangster believed to be operating from Canada and known for his connections to the Lawrence Bishnoi and Bambiha gangs. These gangs have been linked to various criminal activities across Punjab.

Police are currently investigating the shooting and extortion attempt. They confirmed that while the gunshots targeted Bains, he had fortunately left the restaurant 30 minutes prior to the incident.

Possible connection to Sidhu Moose Wala's death?

This incident has drawn comparisons to the tragic death of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala in May 2022. Bains' company managed Moose Wala, who was shot and killed in an attack by gangster Goldy Brar. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as authorities work to apprehend those responsible.
