Another death due to dowry has been reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Greater Noida, where a woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband and in-laws for not fulfilling the demand of dowry that included a Fortuner and Rs 21 lakh cash. The deceased has been identified as Karishma and the accused has been identified as Vikas who tied the knot in December 2022. The family lived in Kheda Chauganpur village of Greater Noida's Ecotech-3.

In his complaint, Deepak, the brother of the victim mentioned that Karishma called them up on Friday saying that her husband and his family had beaten her. When they reached to check on her, they found her dead.

The victim’s brother also informed that at the time of the wedding, they gave Rs 11 lakh cash and an SUV but the family kept on harassing her for more and abused her mentally and physically over the years. The situation worsened after she gave birth to a girl child following which the two families tried to sort their differences through several panchayat meetings and agreed on Rs 10 lakh more as dowry but the abuse did not stop.

Meanwhile, a case of dowry has been registered against Vikas, the accused, and his family. The accused and his father have been arrested in the case and further investigation is on.
