designer’s job update fuels debate (X/@MauryanPentool)
A recent employment news posted by a graphic designer on X (Twitter) has set the workplace and gender inclusion debate ablaze. Mauryan, shared his excitement about working in a company with a zero female population, saying, "Finally joined a company with no women, and all my colleagues are 40+ in age. No drama, no politics. Apne kaam se kaam."
Mauryan made this public in a post when he described starting a new job with an all-married, middle-aged crew at his company. To that, he jokingly added, "Sab shadi shuda hai bhai, mujhe bhi leke (Everyone is married, bro, including me)." When the post otherwise came as an acknowledgment of work appreciation, soon the tone faced criticisms of it being biased toward only certain sexes.
The post indicated that offices with women are likely to have "drama" and "politics," a view many felt was problematic. Critics indicated that it was doing a disservice to project such negative stereotyping and dilute the progress towards creating workplaces where everyone feels included. A user wrote sarcastically, "Drame aur politics to 40+ wale hi krte hain (Conflicts are caused by those over 40 too)," indicating that office conflicts are not gender-specific but can also be caused by age or seniority.
The post became viral, eliciting mixed reactions from netizens. While some users identified with Mauryan's view and even indicated that they would love to work in such environments, others criticized the post for not being inclusive. A sarcastic comment read, "Are you living in the Mauryan Empire?" referencing the user's name while questioning his archaic thinking.
This case emphasizes the continued necessity of creating gender-friendly workplaces and combating stereotypes that hold back efforts toward equality.
