In the recent scam surfacing in the market, users get messages saying that their order could not delivered to them due to the incomplete address of the buyer. Failure to provide the address will lead to the return of the order back to the warehouse. Government has issued a warning for the users to not trust any misleading messages that can lead to data leaks.

Beware of the new scam

This has come after several users reported receiving fraudulent SMS messages impersonating India Post, claiming that a package is awaiting delivery. PBI warned users by stating that if users are getting messages from the Post Office of India asking for their address otherwise their package will be returned in 48 hours, beware of such scams, such messages are not true.

What is the scam message ?

According to the message, it is mentioned that your order has arrived at the warehouse but we could not deliver your package to you because of the incomplete address mentioned in the order. Kindly update your address, a failure to do so will lead to the return of the package. PBI issues a warning to take care while sharing your personal information and these kind of messages do not hold authenticity of any sort.

However, this message is a scam designed to deceive recipients into clicking on the provided link. If clicked, the link could potentially install malicious software or viruses on the user's device, allowing hackers unauthorized access to sensitive data.

Warning by PBI

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) issued a warning through social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), cautioning users about this fraudulent scheme. They clarified that India Post does not send such messages requesting address updates for package delivery. Users must be vigilant and avoid clicking on suspicious links to protect their personal information and devices from cyber threats.
