Bengaluru, India's tech capital, is no stranger to long traffic jams, but one recent incident has raised eyebrows for a completely different reason. A woman was caught on camera using her laptop while driving on one of the city's busy roads. The incident, which quickly went viral on social media, sparked a mix of reactions, from disbelief to calls for stricter action.

Caught on camera: Dangerous multitasking behind the wheel

The viral footage, captured by a motorist, shows the woman driving while her attention is clearly diverted to the laptop in her lap. The video quickly gained traction on social media, with many questioning the woman’s judgment and safety. The woman, who has not been publicly identified, was later traced by the police using the visible number plate on her car.

Police take action: Rs 1,000 fine imposed

Following the viral video, the Bengaluru Traffic Police took immediate action. They issued the woman a fine of Rs 1,000 for the unsafe behavior. The police also posted the video on their official X account, along with a clear message: "Work from office or work from home, not while driving!" The post highlighted the dangers of distracted driving and served as a reminder to others to prioritize safety on the road.

Dangerous behavior: A close call for safety

According to a police official, the woman admitted to the officers that she was rushing to log into work and was running late. "Since her residence address was registered in our jurisdiction, we issued her a notice, directing her to appear before us," the official explained. "We showed her the video, which went viral, and explained how dangerous her actions were—not only for herself but for other commuters on the road."

The public reaction: Mixed opinions on social media

The incident has sparked a lively debate online. While many users condemned the woman's actions, others turned their attention to her employer, criticizing the workplace culture that allegedly forced her to multitask while driving. Some even suggested that the woman’s driving license should be canceled, while others pointed fingers at the city's poor infrastructure for contributing to the delays.

One X user wrote, "Should cancel driving licence." Another commented, "When main roads become parking lots due to unplanned development, people have no choice but to delay going to the office." Meanwhile, some suggested that the company CEO and managers should be held accountable, with one user stating, "Her company & managers name should be revealed and an FIR lodged on the company CEO & manager."

A wake-up call for safer driving

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of distracted driving, especially in a city like Bengaluru, where traffic congestion is a daily challenge. While the woman’s actions were reckless, the viral video has opened a larger conversation about work culture, infrastructure, and safety on the roads. The police have urged citizens to keep their focus while driving and leave work-related tasks for safer environments.
