Residents of the affluent Vibhuti Khand neighborhood in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, were alarmed to discover a reptile that resembled a monitor lizard creeping inside a residential structure. They mistakenly thought the animal was a crocodile. A video of the incident was made and posted on social media on Monday.

Reptile can be curious creatures

There was a reptile on the second floor of Vikalp Khand-3 in Vibhuti Khand that looked a lot like a Bengal monitor lizard. Considering that it had crawled up from the bottom floor to reach the upper story, this caused quite a stir. Alarmingly, locals contacted the forest department and local police because they thought the creature was a crocodile at first. Officials from the forest department showed up shortly after to remove the reptile.

Climbs couple floors to scare

According to reports, zoo director Aditi Sharma verified that the reptile was a monitor lizard rather than a crocodile, as several locals had first thought. After arriving at the spot with his team, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Sitanshu Pandey caught the monitor lizard. There have not yet been any reports of the reptile causing any harm or damage.
