Frustrated Mother (File)

A mother in China recently made headlines after an intense incident involving her son. Frustrated by his misbehavior, she stopped her car on a busy highway to discipline him. The event took place on an expressway in Zhengzhou, Henan province, in mid-February, and quickly went viral on social media, sparking a debate about parenting styles.

A Child's Dangerous Behavior

According to reports, the child, believed to be about eight years old, became upset when his mother insisted they were going home. In a fit of anger, he attempted to jump out of the moving car, which could have been very dangerous for him. The mother, identified as Zhang, initially tried to reason with him, but her verbal attempts were unsuccessful.

A Controversial Response

Unable to calm him down, Zhang made the decision to pull the car over in the emergency lane of the highway. While the car was stationary, she physically removed him from the vehicle and punished him by whipping him with a tree branch. She was seen holding onto his coat to prevent him from running away. The child’s cries were heard as she carried out the punishment.

Zhang explained her actions in a later statement, saying that verbal discipline had not worked, and she felt that her child’s behavior was affecting her ability to drive safely. Despite knowing the risks of stopping in an emergency lane, including the possibility of a fine, Zhang felt she had no choice but to discipline her son in that moment.

Public Reaction to the Video

The incident was captured on video by another passenger and quickly went viral, gaining millions of views on social media. Public opinion was divided. Some supported Zhang, arguing that her actions were a necessary form of discipline, while others criticized her, suggesting that the punishment was excessive, especially considering the potential dangers of stopping on a highway.
