The Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, put on a spectacular show across the skies of Europe on Friday. The vibrant light display was visible from as far south as Romania and Poland, all the way up to northern Russia and the UK.
This rare sighting was caused by a strong geomagnetic storm, which sent charged particles from the sun crashing into Earth's atmosphere. These particles interact with the gases in the atmosphere, causing them to glow in a variety of colors, including green, red, purple, and white.
People across Europe were treated to a truly unforgettable sight. Social media was flooded with photos and videos of the aurora, and many described it as one of the most beautiful natural phenomena they had ever seen.
United Kingdom Space Agency shared the beautiful sights on their official X handle, captioning it “Northern Lights gracing our skies.”
There's a heightened possibility of the Northern Lights gracing our skies in the coming nights thanks to several Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) that left the Sun recently. 🌌
