At 111 years and 224 days old, John Alfred Tinniswood from England has officially claimed the title of world's oldest living man. His name has been recorded in the Guinness Book. His record is not that of the oldest person but that of the longest living person.

About John Tinniswood

John was born on 26 August 1912 in Liverpool. This was the same year that the Titanic sank. John's exact age as of 5 April 2024 is 111 years 223 days. At the age of 111, John is a great-grandfather and currently lives in a care home in Southport.
After John was confirmed as the oldest living person, Guinness World Records official adjudicator Megan Bruce visited Southport to present John with the certificate and learn more about his long life.

He likes doing work on his own

Despite being 111 years old, John can do most of his daily tasks on his own. He gets up from bed without anyone's help. He listens to radio to stay connected with the news and even today he does his own financial management. He even credits his longevity to pure luck.

Moderation is key to his longevity

John Tinniswood said moderation was key to a his longevity. He avoided smokes, rarely drinked and didn't follow special diet. Apart from it, he consumes a fish and chip supper once a week. If you drink too much or you eat too much or you walk too much-if you do too much of anything-you are going to suffer eventually.

Who hold this record earlier?

Earlier this record was held by 114-year-old Juan Vicente Perez of Venezuela, who died a few days ago. It was believed that after Juan's death, this record would go to 112-year-old Gisaburo Sonobe of Japan. But when the Guinness Book team searched, it was found that he died on March 31.
