Punjab police have registered a case against Instagram influencer Archana Makwana after a complaint from the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). The incident in question took place on June 21, International Yoga Day, when Makwana performed a headstand (Shirsasana) and meditated on the premises of the Golden Temple. She subsequently shared the images on social media, sparking outrage.

Who is Archana Makwana?

Archana Makwana is a well-known Instagram influencer and entrepreneur from Vadodara. She runs a fashion design brand called House Of Archana and is associated with 'Healing Tattvas'. As a travel and fashion blogger, she documents her experiences and has amassed nearly 140,000 followers on Instagram. Makwana is recognised for her dedication to promoting yoga and wellness, having received an award on International Yoga Day for her contributions to the field.

Online Backlash and Death Threats

Following the viral spread of her photos, Makwana faced severe backlash. The SGPC condemned the act, stating that it hurt religious sentiments. As a result, Makwana received numerous death threats online. In response, the Gujarat police provided her with security and advised her to stay home for the next few days.

Apology and Reflection

Makwana quickly removed the offending photos and posted a video apology on Saturday. "The world was celebrating International Yoga Day, so I thought performing a Shirsasana at such a holy site would convey a message of unity and fitness. I never imagined it would offend anyone," she explained. Despite her intentions, the act was seen as disrespectful by many, leading to the current legal and social repercussions.
