Netflix said on Thursday that social media celebrity turned boxer Jake Paul would take on former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson at AT&T Stadium on July 20. The fight between Paul, 27, and Tyson, 57, will be streamed live on the streaming site. Tyson has not competed since he faced Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition in November 2020. In its latest venture into live sports production, Netflix's first combat sports show will feature Paul and Tyson as the main event.

More on the Battle of the Ages!

With Tyson turning 58 in July, it remains to be seen if this fight will be presented as an exhibition or as a legitimate professional fight. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which oversees boxing in the state, still needs to approve the specifics.

Although Tyson appears good in training footage that he posts on social media, boxing is risky for people of all ages. The California State Athletic Commission mandated that his fight with Jones be considered an exhibition, meaning it would effectively be a spirited sparring match.

Paul's previous life...

Paul started off as a YouTube influencer and amassed a sizable fan base before turning pro four years ago. He has defeated a fellow YouTuber and many mixed martial artists in nine out of ten battles, winning six of them via knockout. His opponents were largely indistinguishable. Tyson recently

The WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury's less successful half brother, Tommy Fury, was the opponent in his lone defeat from the previous year.
With the goal of becoming a world champion, I now have the opportunity to show myself against the greatest heavyweight champion in history, the most dangerous boxer on the planet, and the baddest man on the earth. Paul posted on X, the former Twitter, saying, "Time to put Iron Mike to sleep."
'Iron Mike' from 1987 to 1990, Tyson was the unchallenged heavyweight champion of the world. Having won 50 fights, 44 of them by knockout, he retired in 2005. Unofficially, his entertaining exhibition fight against Jones was declared a draw.

Here's what Paul has to say

"I am eager to enter the ring with Jake Paul at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas," declared Tyson, who watched Paul lose to Fury in Saudi Arabia the previous year. It will be exciting to witness what a "child" with the drive and aspirations of a GOAT can do with his experience and skill set. He has developed tremendously as a boxer over the years. It will be quite exciting to witness as it represents a full circle: I began his boxing career on the undercard of my bout with Roy Jones, and now I intend to put an end to him.

On the undercard of the Tyson-Jones fight, Paul defeated former NBA player Nate Robinson in his second professional bout. Last Saturday, he defeated journeyman professional boxer Ryan Bourland in his most recent bout. In an effort to fulfill his dream of competing for a true world title, Paul has stepped up his game in recent years. While it would be a detour from that goal, a fight with the still-respected Tyson would represent his most prominent performance to date.

Netflix and Paul's company, Most Valuable Promotions, are collaborating to produce the show. After hosting a golf/auto racing crossover event in November of last year, Netflix will be hosting live sporting events for the third time, this time in the Dallas Cowboys' home stadium. Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz played an exhibition tennis match in Las Vegas last weekend as part of The Netflix Slam, an event organized by the streaming behemoth.
