Magistrate asks gang rape survivor to strip in court; Here’s what happened

A magistrate in Rajasthan's Karauli district was charged on Tuesday for allegedly instructing an 18-year-old Dalit gang-rape survivor to undress in court to display her injuries, as per a familiar officer on Wednesday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (ST-SC) Mina Meena mentioned that the survivor lodged a complaint on March 30, stating that the Hindaun court magistrate "demanded her to undress to show her injuries."

"Upon her refusal to comply, she recorded her statement in court and filed a complaint against the magistrate. A case was filed at Kotwali police station under charges of violating modesty," stated Meena.

The magistrate faces charges under section 345 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code and SC/ST (prevention of atrocities) Act, based on the woman's complaint.

A senior official from the Rajasthan High Court mentioned that an investigation is ongoing. "The case has been transferred to a team supervised by Vigilance Registrar of the Rajasthan High Court, Ajay Singh Jatt." He also stated that Ajay Singh visited the rape survivor in Karauli on Wednesday and recorded her statement.

According to police, the woman was reportedly raped on March 19 by three men.

A case was filed under several sections of the Indian Penal Code against the three men, and a First Information Report (FIR) was registered on March 27 at Hindaun Sadar police station after a court referral.

Accused on the run

The accused and their family members have been on the run since the incident, according to the DSP. "Our teams are actively searching for the culprits. Further investigation is ongoing," he affirmed.
