New Delhi: In a case that blends love, social media, and international borders, a young man from Jammu and Kashmir was arrested by security forces in Gujarat while trying to cross the India-Pakistan border to meet his girlfriend from Pakistan. The man, identified as Imtiaz Sheikh Multan, had fallen in love with a Pakistani woman he met online and embarked on a journey from Kashmir to Gujarat in an attempt to cross the border.

Arrest near the border

Security personnel detained Imtiaz in Khavda, a village located in the Kutch district of Gujarat, near the border. According to officials, Imtiaz was attempting to illegally enter Pakistan to meet his girlfriend, a social media influencer from Multan, Pakistan. The authorities promptly arrested him and informed local law enforcement in Jammu and Kashmir about the incident.

Cleared of suspicion

Kutch Superintendent of Police Sagar Bagmar revealed that after thorough interrogation and background checks with Imtiaz’s family and the local police in Kashmir, the young man was released. "It was confirmed that there was no security threat, nor was Imtiaz involved in any anti-national activity," said Bagmar. Authorities further noted that the man was mentally unstable, which may have influenced his actions.

The love story behind the arrest

Imtiaz's journey started when he fell in love with a Pakistani woman on social media. Unable to obtain legal permission to visit Pakistan, Imtiaz reportedly sought the help of locals to find a way to cross the border illegally. His intent, according to the police, was purely romantic, as he wanted to meet his girlfriend in person.

Despite knowing the difficulty of entering Pakistan, Imtiaz was determined and believed crossing through Kutch was his best chance. Inspector MB Chauhan confirmed that Imtiaz was aware of the risks but was motivated by his desire to meet the woman who had captured his heart online.

No national threat

After being detained and thoroughly interrogated, police confirmed that Imtiaz posed no national security risk. He was released from custody following confirmation from local authorities and his family, bringing an end to the unusual cross-border love saga.

This incident sheds light on the influence of social media on cross-border relationships and the lengths some individuals are willing to go for love. While Imtiaz Sheikh Multan’s attempt to cross into Pakistan was unsuccessful, it serves as a reminder of the emotional motivations that can drive people to take drastic steps.
