A headmistress in Chintamani district of Karnataka has been suspended after photos and videos of her behaving inappropriately with a student during a recent school excursion went viral on social media on Friday.

The 42-year-old headmistress of the Government High School, Murugamalla, in the Chintamani taluk, allegedly engaged in intimate acts with a student during a school trip from December 22 to 25. The photos, which circulated widely on Thursday, showed the pair posing in objectionable ways, including the student kissing the headmistress on the cheek, pulling her saree, and lifting her in his arms. Videos emerged further confirming the inappropriate behavior.

District Education Officer investigates

Following the online uproar, the Chintamani District Education Officer Umadevi, visited the school to investigate the matter. Interrogating fellow teachers, students, and staff who accompanied the trip. Umadevi said that the students and staff of the school went on an educational tour to Horanadu, Dharmasthala, Yana and other places from December 22 to 25, and the said incident allegedly took place then.

She said, "The photos that went viral were taken by another student. Barring the two students and the headmistress, no other staffer or student was aware of the incident."

Based on the investigation and recommendations from the BEO, the District Deputy Director of the School Education Department P. Bailanjanappa, issued an order suspending the headmistress from service pending a departmental inquiry.
