New Delhi: A Russian influencer's dangerous beliefs have resulted in a tragic loss and a lengthy prison sentence. Maxim Lyutyi, 48, has been jailed for eight years after his one-month-old son, Kosmos, died from malnutrition and pneumonia.
Lyutyi, a self-proclaimed advocate for extreme vegan diets, believed exposing Kosmos to sunlight would grant him superhuman abilities. This bizarre belief tragically led him to deny the infant proper nourishment.
Kosmos' mother, Oksana Mironova, was reportedly pressured by Lyutyi to withhold food from the baby. Fearing his wrath, she resorted to secretly breastfeeding Kosmos. A relative of Mironova stated, "How is it possible to feed the baby with sunlight? A baby needs his mother's milk."
Lyutyi's misguided beliefs extended beyond sunlight. Reports indicate he also subjected Kosmos to cold baths, believing it would strengthen the child. These actions, coupled with the lack of proper nutrition, ultimately proved fatal.
While imprisoned, Lyutyi has seemingly abandoned his previous beliefs, even consuming meat. This remorse, however, comes far too late for Kosmos. Mironova's mother expressed regret that this change didn't happen sooner, highlighting the manipulative control Lyutyi exerted over his partner.
A Deadly Delay and a Life Lost
By the time Lyutyi agreed to seek medical attention for Kosmos, it was too late. The severely malnourished infant died on the way to the hospital in March 2023. Both Lyutyi and Mironova were arrested, with Lyutyi ultimately confessing to his son's death.
Prosecutors sought a sentence of eight and a half years, and Lyutyi received close to that, facing a high-security prison for his crime. This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of extremism and the tragic consequences when delusional beliefs supersede a child's basic needs.
