Indian speedster Mohammed Shami underwent surgery on Thursday in the United Kingdom. He provided a major update through his post on social media platforms after missing the Test series against South Africa and England. This confirms his absence from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The pace sensation underwent an operation on his Achilles Tendon in the UK.

Shami's post, which expressed his determination to bounce back, drew a surprising response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who wished the cricketer a speedy recovery and praised his courage.

PM Modi's encouraging message

Shami expressed his surprise and gratitude after receiving a personal message from Prime Minister Modi. The Prime Minister's tweet wished Shami a speedy recovery and commended his strength. "Wishing you a speedy recovery and good health, @MdShami11! I'm confident you'll overcome this injury with the courage that is so integral to you," he posted.

Shami, touched by the gesture, thanked the Prime Minister for his well wishes and support, vowing to work hard towards his recovery. He replied, "Thank you so much Modi sir, for your well wishes and support during this time. I will continue to work hard towards my recovery, Thank you all for your continued wish, love, and support."

Shami's race against time for T20 World Cup

Shami hasn't played for India since the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 final, where he sustained an ankle injury. While his absence from the IPL could affect his selection chances, his experience and wicket-taking ability, especially in the previous T20 World Cup, make him a valuable contender.

However, Shami, who hasn't featured in a T20I since the last World Cup, admitted earlier in January that he's unsure about his inclusion in the upcoming World Cup squad. With the T20 World Cup scheduled for June, Indian fans are eagerly waiting for  Shami's comeback.
